There are plenty of places to see and things to do in the surrounding area. We've listed a few of the most popular places here but the list is endless thanks to our central location.
Great Ponton
Great Ponton is a short stroll from Mill Farm and has retained many of the quintessential qualities associated with a typical English village. The Church of The Holy Cross, left, dominates the skyline and is a useful landmark. The local community is very active and organises all manner of events from music concerts to James Bond casino nights and even an annual duck race!
Please ask us if any events are taking place during your stay as you'll be made most welcome and have a thoroughly enjoyable time.
Stamford
Captured in time by its conservation status, this once major wool town has retained much of its old world charm and prosperity. Many of the buildings are constructed from old Lincolnshire limestone, hence the town's distinguished appearance and popularity with tourists and movie directors alike.
Despite a modest population of 18,000 the town boasts 11 churches, 30 pubs, 20 restaurants and over 10 quality hotels and guest houses. Most of the pubs serve Real Ale and are conveniently within walking distance of town centre, railway and bus stations.
Belvoir Castle
Belvoir (pronounced 'beaver') Castle is the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland for one thousand years. Currently the family home of the 11th Duke, Duchess and their young family.
The name Belvoir means 'beautiful view' and dates from Norman times.
The Castle occupies a commanding position with breath- taking views across the Vale of Belvoir.
Belton House
Belton House is a restoration country house with magnificent interiors, gardens and parkland that features outdoor concerts during the summer, including a 'Proms' style event that is not to be missed!
The House was also the location for the BBC's 'Jane Eyre', 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Tom Jones'
Lincoln
Famous the world over, Lincoln Cathedral is certainly magnificent. It was first built in the 11th century and is the home of the Lincoln Imp, the fabulous Dean's Eye and stunning architecture.
Lincoln Castle is a beautiful Norman castle containing one of the four copies of the Magna Carta from 1215. Visitors can walk round the ramparts, view the city from the highest tower, and see the prison chapel and dungeons. The Castle also offers regular activities, events and exhibitions.
Lincoln Drill Hall is a modern entertainment centre with a rich and colourful programme of entertainment including theatre, jazz, comedy, dance, rock and pop, and exhibitions to name but a few.
Grantham
The closest town to Great Ponton is Grantham, which is about four miles to the north and is famous for being the birthplace of Sir Issac Newton and Margaret Thatcher.
Rutland Water
Located an easy 20 minute drive down the A1 is Rutland Water; superb for a family day out. The lake itself offers a veriety of water sports from sailing and windsurfing to canoeing. For a more relaxing trip, take the boat trip that operates throughout the summer season on the 'Rutland Belle'. Cycle paths and footpaths run around the entire lake, and there is also a wildfowl conservation area. We highly recommend a visit.
Ferry Meadows (Nene Park) Peterborough
The River Nene runs through nearby Peterborough, and the Ferry Meadows Visitor Centre is located within Nene Park. There are endless family attractions here, from the Nene Valley Steam Railway to cycling, watersports, golf, fishing and Narrowboats. The beautiful lakes and pathways also attract people for picnics, walks and cycling. Bustling Peterborough City Centre is a pleasant stroll away through the park.
